Captain
Ron Beck specializes in light tackle fishing. Light
tackle fishing is a much more fun experience while fishing
the flats. When you hook into a big red or snook, you
will actually feel the power of that fish while he is
spooling you. Instead of a big heavy rod where you just
crank the fish right in, you will be able to feel those
unique head shakes and spins and ultimately be able
to tell the difference in the way the fish fight.
While flats fishing you will be fishing with a gloomis
rod set up with a shimano reel, usually a 4000 series
or smaller. It will be set up with 40 power pro and
a 30lb leader depending on water conditions. The same
rods can be used to catch small blactip sharks which
makes for an ultimate light tackle experience.
Shark fishing and tarpon fishing can be done on light
tackle in the right locations. Most shark fishing requires
heavy 80-100 lb test with 450lb aircraft cable wire
leader. You would be surprised at what a shark could
bite through in a real live shark fishing experience.
Wire cutters could barely crimp this cable but the shark
bite through it like we bite through a piece of beef
jerkey!
